Sports
Granada Hills Baptist School offers an
after-school sports program which currently consists of soccer, basketball,
track & field, and T-Ball/softball. For each season, sign-ups are available
to determine how many teams and coaches are needed. Students meet after
school two days a week during the season from 3:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.
Math Olympics
The
ACSI Math Olympics challenges students in two categories: Arithmetic Computation
and Mathematical Reasoning. Students compete in their own grade level in
grades 3-8.
Spelling Bee
The
ACSI Spelling Bee program occurs in four levels: School Spelling Bees, District
Spelling Bees, ACSI Spelling Bee Regional Finals and ACSI National Spelling
Bee. Students compete in their own grade level in grades 1-6.
Speech Meet
A
student demonstrates his/her ability by delivering a memorized poem, speech
or passage to the audience. The event is a half-day. Each participant receives
a ribbon.
Choirs
Granada
Hills Baptist School offers two choirs. Music Box is for grades K-2 and
meets at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesdays. King's Kids, for grades 3-6 meet Tuesday
afternoons. Both choirs perform at Christmas and again in the spring. Each
choir sings in Granada Hills Baptist Church services twice per year, and
the King's Kids participate in the ACSI Choral Festival. This entails an
evening rehearsal and adjudication time, concluding with a concert program
for the public.
Field Trips
All
classes have opportunities for field trips related to curriculum. Some are
standard, such as:
- The third grade visits the Chumash Indian
Museum.
- The fourth grade flies to Sacramento for
a day to see the governor's mansion state capitol, railroad museum, Sutter's
Fort, Old Sacramento and to meet with our state representatives.

- The fifth graders spend 2 days in Catalina
charting the ocean floor by investigating and interpreting nautical charts
and observing and identifying animals and fish from trawling Catalina Channel.

Most field trips are by carpool where
parents are asked to assist.
Walk Throughs
California Weekly Explorer comes to us annually with special
programs. For the fourth graders it's a "Walk through
California" and fifth graders "Walk through Ancient Times." In
each of these a script is provided ahead of time and students
prepare to reenact life during a particular period of history.
Assemblies
Throughout
the year we invite groups to come on campus and enrich our curriculum with
presentations and exhibits.

Outdoor Education
One
week each spring we send our sixth graders away for a high-quality educational
program emphasizing man's responsibility toward God's creation. We use the
facilities at Angeles Crest Christian Camp. The program's staff provides
the spiritual emphasis that is the foundation of the educational program.
