The Beauty Extravaganza began in 2010, when Granada Hills Baptist was inspired to build on the daily work of a member of our church, Debbie Dullabaun, a volunteer domestic violence victims’ advocate, and her police and volunteer colleagues. This dedicated group responds to 911 calls, and assists the victims and their families with emergency needs. Most of the victims are defenseless women and children.
Our now-annual event provides hope, comfort and loving care to these vulnerable families. Our goal is to express our compassion through deeds rather than words. Professional beauticians and massage therapists offer their services free of charge, providing complete beauty makeovers and soothing relaxation. The women are also able to choose clothing for their families, donated by church and community members. The children are offered special programs and provided with gifts for the holidays. A hearty meal is served to all, with plenty of leftovers packed to go.
On the third annual extravaganza in December 2012, over 150 volunteers joyfully served over 250 women and children in need. To say this day made a difference in their lives—and in the lives of our church and community volunteers--would be an understatement. Our program relies on donations and volunteers. Clothing and monetary contributions are always welcome.
